Radio receivers receive signals from a few kHz to hundreds of GHz. They can be used to measure the strength of the signal or demodulate information impressed on the carrier. This information may be computer data, video or audio signals, or a combination of all three, as in satellite TV reception.
A receiver can also be used in industrial process control, for example, to measure the flow of liquid in a pipe, measure the volume of a substance in a tank, measure the water content of materials.
A radar receiver can be used to measure the range of an object or to find out information about it, for example, to measure the speed of a turbine blade inside an engine remotely
